What name to choose?

The first step is to check if your business name is available. If so, GREAT! If not then it’s time to look at alternative ways of spelling it (if suitable) or perhaps a domain name that conveys what you do. If you are just starting out in business you should incorporate checking domain names as part of your business name creation process. With so many domains already registered, it can be hard to find one that matches your current business name. Talk to our team about some creative solutions.



What does it cost?

Domain names are pretty cheap, they are only $29+gst per year.

Often businesses will register several domain names to help protect their brand.

You re-register your domain name each year just like a vehicle. We notify our customers 4 weeks prior to their domain renewal just to make sure they still need it.

If you find you are no longer using a domain name simply let us know and we will let the registration lapse so you no longer pay for it.



.co.nz? .com? .other?

If you are based in New Zealand, like us, then your first option to check should be the long-standing .co.nz domain. There is also the newer .nz option if the .co.nz is not available.

If your first choice is not available it’s a good idea to check if they are running a similar business – you don’t want to accidentally be advertising for the competition!

If you are planning on providing services internationally then you should consider a .com.



Domain Ownership

All domain names registered by Just A Website are registered using our clients’ details. All our customers own their domains.

If you are planning to register your domain elsewhere make sure it is in your name as you will not legally own it if not. Some overseas companies do not use their customer’s details when registering a domain name leaving the customer unable to move or sell the domain in the future.

Hosting Services



Domain Hosting

Once we register a domain on your behalf it is hosted on our Just A Website domain account. This is where we manage all our client’s domain names and make any setting updates required.

Domain Transfers

If you already have a domain name it’s a good idea to transfer the domain to our hosting account.

Domain transfers are not required to be a Just A Website customer, but it does make managing updates a lot easier.

Domain DNS Updates

If you have your domain registered and hosted with another provider you will need to have them update your DNS settings once we have completed your website.
